Symptom-driven, on-demand management of GERD without oesophagitis
Nexium® , 20 mg once daily, is highly effective in resolving GERD symptoms in patients without oesophagitis.
On-demand treatment as needed to control recurrent symptoms
The superiority of acid control with Nexium® compared with other PPIs, and its predictably high efficacy in controlling the symptoms of GERD, enable Nexium® to be used for the new approach of on- demand treatment in GERD patients without oesophagitis. Nexium®, 20 mg once daily, is highly effective in providing freedom from symptoms in GERD patients without oesophagitis. 26
Once symptoms have resolved, subsequent symptom control can be achieved with an on-demand regimen, taking Nexium®, 20 mg once daily, as needed. On-demand treatment with Nexium® thus differs from traditional maintenance therapy or intermittent therapy (Figure 9).
Following successful resolution of symptoms, effective symptom control was maintained subsequently in nine out of 10 patients taking on-demand therapy with Nexium® (Figure 10). 5,6 On average, patients only took one dose of Nexium® approximately every 3 days to control their symptoms effectively, 5,6 and most patients took Nexium® for 3 or fewer consecutive days. 5
